breaking history, mending present | 2025

These sculptures are made from shards of broken and stale bread frames that fall to the ground during the course of my “Breaking Bread” installations. It is part of an ongoing series of works titled “Breaking History, Mending Present”. Like stone heaps that hikers in the wilderness add to as a way to mark their passing, these bread piles are a ritual of sorts. They become a way to take stock of Western art history and its colonial legacies; and a way to bring to the forefront of imagination that nothing lasts forever, not even legacies that promise eternal life.
