It is made with rye bread dough and stout bread dough kneaded on linen (rye flour, wholemeal flour, white flour, salt, caraway seeds, water, yeast, molasses, bicarbonate of soda, dark brown sugar, stout beer, buttermilk). How To Make A Bread Pile - sped up by 100 000%. This sculpture is made from shards of broken and stale bread frames that fall to the ground during the course of my "Breaking Bread" installations. It is part of an ongoing series of works titled "Breaking History, Mending Present". Like stone heaps that hikers in the wilderness add to as a way to mark their passing, these bread piles are a ritual of sorts. They become a way to take stock of Western art history and its colonial legacies; and a way to bring to the forefront of imagination that nothing lasts forever, not even legacies that promise eternal life.
