whitenoisewhitegirl | 2022 – present

No one ever talks about the moment you found that you were white. Or the moment you found out you were black. That’s a profound revelation. The minute you find that out, something happens. You have to renegotiate everything.

Toni Morrison

whitenoisewhitegirl was a fictional documentary about four white artists who lived between time and space across South Africa and Italy, and who each had very different ways of engaging with or denying the presence of coloniality in their lives. The film was intended to be a mockumentary of sorts, following the careers of each artist until the disrupting presence of a ghost called Madam began to haunt them all and unravel their lives. This unravelling would eventually reveal that each character was one facet of the same person, whitenoisewhitegirl. The film was meant to be an exploration of the multifaceted layers of implication and identity that needed to be accounted for and wrestled with as a white person within the history of colonialism and modernity/coloniality. Filming for this project began in 2022. In 2023 the footage was stolen, including its backup. Currently, only a two minute rough cut of a teaser reel remains. However, production will resume soon.
